National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Mahatma Gandhi Centenary year 1969 and aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. The NSS Unit was started in our college in the year 2011. The overall objective of the scheme is educational and service to the community. It is a student–centered programme in which projects are implemented by the NSS volunteers in close collaboration with the clientele community and scope for the students’ interaction with the people.

While interacting with the community the students learn many things which they cannot learn from theory classes. The NSS scheme is aimed at developing the overall personality of the students in such a way so that the students emerge as responsible individuals encompassing the virtues of life . NSS volunteers are an asset to the society.

Students through the NSS activities are engaged in actual work not only within the college campus but also their services extend to schools and society. The aim of NSS is to develop a sense of service, team spirit and dignity of labour. The various programmes conducted by the NSS have brought about a remarkable change in their outlook and their attitude towards life and society.

Objective

The overall objective of NSS is Personality Development through community service.

The broad objectives of NSS are to:

  • Understand the community in which they work.
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster and
  • Practice national integration and social harmony.

Youth Red Cross

Youth represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Youth Red Cross programme. This has been designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities not only as workers and also as beneficiaries, but as partners in management.

The programme focuses on the following areas:

  • • Promote life and health through training and education on safety, primary health care and healthy living
  • • Encourage community service through training and education
  • • Disseminate the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement through activities that encourage the Red Cross ideals
  • • Promote international friendship with activities that cultivate a humanitarian spirit
  • ⦁ Technical support in the development of youth programmes, fund-raising, identification of material and human resources.

Objective of YRC

  • • To conduct social and health awareness programmes
  • • Awareness on the care of their own health and that of others
  • • To encourage the students to extend their humanitarian services to the society
  • • To offer First Aid Training to all the YRC volunteers
  • • To develop leadership quality among the students
  • • The understanding and acceptance of civic responsibilities and acting accordingly with humanitarian concern, to fulfill the same
  • • To inculcate in the Youth of our country
  • • To understand and acceptance of civic and human responsibilities

Goal of YRC

The Indian Red Cross Society aims to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times, all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimized, alleviated and even prevented, thus contribute to creating a more congenial climate for peace

  • • Blood Donation Camp
  • • Blood Grouping and Haemoglobin Estimation
  • • Conduct Essay competition and award prizes
  • • Practice of Health habits
  • • Exhibition of film shows, cultural programmes and prevention of diseases

Red Ribbon Club

Red Ribbon Club is a movement started by the Government of India in schools and colleges through which, students will spread awareness over HIV / AIDS. It envisages to instil charity mind among all the students to extend their able help towards developing healthy life styles, donating blood to all the needy by promotion of Regular voluntary blood donation.


Red Ribbon Club Guidelines

  • The significance of Red Ribbon in HIV / AIDS is:
  • • Red like Love, as a symbol of passion and tolerance for those affected.
  • • Red like Blood, representing the pain caused by many people who have of AIDS.
  • • Red like the anger about the helplessness about which we are facing for a disease for which there is still no cure.
  • • Red is a sign of warning not to carelessly ignore one of the biggest problems of our time.

Red Ribbon Symbol

The Red Ribbon is a symbol for both drug prevention and for the fight against AIDS. The Red Ribbon foundation is an organization founded in 1993 whose main purpose is the education about prevention of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV, Acquired Deficiency Syndrome Related Complex, ARC and AIDS.
